Janez Kramberger was born on November 1st 1961 in Maribor, as a peasant son of mother Bogomila and father Alojz. He grew up with a younger brother and sister on a farm in Spodnje Partinje in municipality Lenart v Slovenskih goricah. His parents imparted him the respect for people, land and native land. After completed primary school in Lenart, he continued schooling at the Secondary School of Veterinary in Ljubljana. After graduation he enrolled at Veterinary Faculty, which he successfully completed in 1987. He married his wife Tea in 1988 and has three children, daughter Katarina and two sons, Aljaž and Matija. They live with his wife’s parents on a cattle production and wine-growing farm in Spodnji Porčič near Lenart v Slovenskih goricah.
For full ten years he worked as a field veterinary in reproduction in the Slovenske gorice region, the Drava-Ptuj Field and Haloze. At that time he has come to know the way of life and peculiarities of rural life, as well as the problems of the countryside. Such understanding and experience helps him with his work in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia. Along work he has also completed the postgraduate master’s studies in veterinary science.
He came across politics shortly after the foundation of Slovene Rural Association (Slovenska Kmečka Zveza) in 1988, as the founders of Slovene Rural Association in Lenart invited him to participate. He stood as a candidate at the first democratic elections in Slovenia, where he has been given great trust of the voters and was thus able to participate in the attainment of independence of Slovenia. Voters in central Slovenske gorice region also had confidence in him at the National Assembly elections in 1996, 2000 and 2004. In the Slovene People’s Party (SLS) parliamentary group he was given the opportunity to actively participate in the process of accession of Slovenia to the European Union and NATO.
